What is the Youth Guarantee?

The Youth Guarantee is the government’s commitment to ensure that every young person aged 16–24 has the support and opportunities to get into work or education.

It enables 16–24-year-olds to access education, training or work (including apprenticeships), paid work placements, career coaching and employment support.

How to make the most of the Youth Guarantee

If you have left school or college and you’re unsure how to start your career into the sport and physical activity, you can sign up to your local Jobcentre Plus to get a work coach.

Your work coach will have access to careers guidance from CIMSPA, and will be able to help you navigate your first years in the sector. They will be able to help you:

  • decide what you want to do in the sport and physical activity sector, and tell you about roles you may not have thought of.
  • help you build a CV
  • help you apply for jobs, courses, work experience or apprenticeships.

If there is a Sport and Physical Activity Employability Academy pilot in your area, your work coach may be able to put you forward to get involved.

Youth Hubs

Youth Hubs are community-based spaces where 16–24 year olds can access employment support, skills training and wider services to help you move into work.

They bring together Jobcentre Plus work coaches and local partners and employers, all under one roof.

There are currently over 100 Youth Hubs across the country, and will expand to over 300 over the next three years.

Contact your local Jobcentre Plus to find out if there is one currently in your area.
