What is higher education?

Higher education is learning that comes after secondary and further education, leading and leads to a qualification or credit awarded by a degree-awarding body. Typically, it involves working towards a degree, but some programmes may lead to a diploma, certificate or other award or qualification.

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, you can start higher education at the age of 18. In Scotland, this stage can start at 17, depending on how old you are when you finish school.

Choosing an endorsed course

When finding the higher education pathway that’s right for you, it’s important to choose a course that offers a great start to your career.

Courses endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) provide:

  • the knowledge and skills needed by sector employers
  • learning that meets the professional standards for the sector
  • qualifications required for sector employment
  • improved employment prospects post-graduation.

Make the right course choice and see your career fly.

By choosing a CIMSPA-endorsed course, you can be confident that the training is of a high standard and that you will be equipped with the right knowledge, skills and behaviours to perform your role and progress in your career.

What is a Higher Education Partner?

CIMSPA Higher Education Partners represent the sport and physical activity sector’s leading universities and higher education institutes. The endorsement of CIMSPA reflects a commitment by higher education providers to equip students with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to effectively transition into roles in the sector by aligning courses with professional standards.

CIMSPA-endorsed degree programmes are certified as meeting professional standards set by the most highly regarded employers in the sector. Once an institute has become a CIMSPA partner, all degree programmes relating to a career within the sport and physical activity sector will be eligible to be endorsed and quality-assured.
